Skwat is a workout tracker with a squat form check. This page says what it collects, why, where it goes, and how to get rid of it. The short version: your video never leaves your phone, we don’t sell anything about you, and there are no ads or tracking.
Skwat is run by Hiskias Dingeto, who is responsible for your data (the “controller”, in data-protection terms). “We” on this page means Hiskias Dingeto. Contact: hiskias.melke1@gmail.com.
Your camera and video
The form check looks at your body through the camera to count reps and time them. That analysis runs on your phone, using Google’s ML Kit pose detection. Video is not recorded, not stored, and not uploaded, not to us or anyone else. Only the results are kept with your workout: how many reps, how long each took, and a few body measurements per rep (how deep, how upright, which angle you filmed from). ML Kit sends Google diagnostic information about the library: your phone’s model and OS version, how fast detection ran, image size and format, and a Firebase installation ID it uses for configuration. It never sends your images. See Google’s ML Kit data disclosure for Android and iOS.
What we keep, and why
- Your account: your email address and password (stored securely by our database provider, never readable by us), to sign you in and sync your training across devices.
- Your profile: the name you choose, if any, and whether you use kilograms or pounds.
- Your training: workouts and when you did them, exercises, sets with their weights, reps and the time you logged each one, templates, custom exercises, and form-check results, so you can see your history and records.
- Your bodyweight, if you log it.
- The waitlist: your email address, if you join it, only to tell you when Skwat is ready. To stop sign-up spam, the form also keeps a scrambled (keyed-hash) form of your IP address for up to an hour; the address itself isn’t stored.
- Server logs: our providers record your IP address and basic request details when the app or this site talks to their servers, to keep the service running and secure. They keep these logs for a limited time.
The app also keeps a copy of your workout on your phone so it works offline, and uses your phone’s motion sensors to check it’s standing still before a form check. That stays on the phone.
Our legal basis
- Your account and training data: to provide the app you signed up for (contract).
- Bodyweight and form-check measurements may count as health data. We use them only because you choose to record them (explicit consent), and you can delete them, or your whole account, any time.
- The waitlist: your consent, when you join it.
- Server logs and the spam check: keeping the service secure (legitimate interests).
Who handles it
- Supabase stores your account, training data and waitlist entry, and sends sign-in emails. The database is in the United Kingdom (London).
- Vercel hosts this website.
- Google provides ML Kit, on your phone, as above.
These are US companies, so some data, such as server logs and support access, may be handled in the United States. They protect it with the UK’s approved safeguards (the UK–US data bridge or standard contractual clauses). We don’t sell, rent or share your data with anyone else, and there are no advertising or analytics trackers in the app or on this site. Fonts are bundled with the app and this site, so neither loads anything from Google Fonts.
How long we keep it
As long as you have an account. Delete it and everything above is removed from our database straight away; copies in our provider’s routine backups expire after a short period. You stay on the waitlist until you ask to be removed, or until we email you that Skwat is ready.
Your rights
- Delete your account and all your data any time, in the app: here’s how.
- Leave the waitlist, including if someone else added your address, by emailing hiskias.melke1@gmail.com.
- Ask what we hold about you, or to correct, export or delete it, or object to how we use it, by emailing hiskias.melke1@gmail.com. We reply within a month.
- If you’re unhappy with how we handle your data, you can complain to the UK Information Commissioner’s Office at ico.org.uk.
Children
Skwat isn’t meant for anyone under 16.
Changes
If this changes, we’ll update the date at the top. If a change affects data you’ve already given us, we’ll email you before it applies.
